This workbook has been prepared especially to be used with the Learning Through Sounds workbook. Not only was the book prepared with the children in mind, their teacher was also considered. Though children need a certain amount of teacher help to master the skill of writing, this workbook has been designed so the children will soon be able to work without much teacher assistance. Pentime Transition is designed to give second grade manuscript practice at the beginning of the term then switches them to beginning cursive and stroke practice. We encourage you, the teacher, to take time to properly explain each step of proper body, paper, and pencil position, since this will probably be the foundation of their future writing habits. Proper teaching of these important skills will contribute greatly to neat handwriting. The practice pages in the back may be xeroxed for extra practice as needed. Pentime Cursive is designed to provide cursive handwriting skills with a minimum of teacher supervision. However, it is necessary for teachers to watch the students' progress carefully. We hope students will enjoy learning more about our United States and will be inspired by the color plate on the back cover of the book to try their skills in coloring the pictures. The poem sheets are designed for students to color and remove, using them as mottos, or putting them in a folder for a keepsake. The sheet containing the slant lines may be tucked under the pages on the right hand side of the book as a guide to proper slant.
