Pentime is designed to teach students proper handwriting. The series of eight workbooks starts by teaching students manuscript writing, then transitions into cursive, and the following books help to perfect cursive writing.
This workbook has been prepared especially to be used with the Learning Through Sounds workbook. Not only was the book prepared with the children in mind, their teacher was also considered.
Though children need a certain amount of teacher help to master the skill of writing, this workbook has been designed so the children will soon be able to work without much teacher assistance.

This workbook was prepared for the last semester of first grade or after Book 1 has been completed. It is not recommended for use as a first book. Hopefully the blends will help students stay tuned and copying sentences teach sentence structure. Students should be able to work these books with a minimum of supervision. The pictures may be colored as time allows. There are two practice sheets in the back of the book that may be removed and xeroxed for students who need extra practice. We encourage you, the teacher, to teach proper paper and pencil position as well as neatness, which will be a big help in preparing them for cursive writing.

Pentime Transition is designed to give second grade manuscript practice at the beginning of the term then switches them to beginning cursive and stroke practice. We encourage you, the teacher, to take time to properly explain each step of proper body, paper, and pencil position, since this will probably be the foundation of their future writing habits. Proper teaching of these important skills will contribute greatly to neat handwriting. The practice pages in the back may be xeroxed for extra practice as needed.
