After choir tour was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Faith Builders Chorale was privileged to present these songs on tour in 2021. These songs speak deeply to the suffering and uncertainty that is part of the human experience, calling us to rest in God’s presence and offer songs to him in our darkest nights. We’re excited to offer this recording and hope it can be a blessing to you!
A note from Brandon Mullet, conductor:
It’s been a remarkable journey for all of us the past two years. Regardless of your particular interpretation of events, it’s been exhausting, stressful, and profoundly disappointing. In fact, probably all of us have experienced that sudden awareness of fault lines—even chasms that opened suddenly at our feet—that, as far as we knew, had not even existed only weeks and months earlier. These new uncertainties, these sudden gulfs, these deaths and losses of people we knew and loved, in many ways challenged the sources of our confidence and faith. We felt in our bones, in the deepest parts of ourselves, the loss of trust, the fraying of church and community bonds, the dissolution of shared values. We found ourselves asking questions. So what, exactly, unites us? What holds us together? What is truly important? What is true?
The songs on this album speak to these issues. As has always been the case, God knows us completely. He knows what we need. He has never forsaken us. The first half of the program focuses on re-affirming the truth and reality of God with us in the world. The second half can be
experienced as a response to God in the midst of our uncertainty, our questions, our suffering.
One of the surprises for us on this tour of seven states was the consistent response of so many: tears. That was new and different. Many people expressed deep appreciation, describing how they were moved, touched, and healed through this music. We hope it can be the same for you.
